South African born Tristan Dicks developed his passion the African bush since a very young age. Following the footsteps of his grandfather, an honorary Kruger Park Ranger, he was exposed early in life to the beauty hidden in nature.

A passion for sports and in particular for cricket is what led Tristan to move to Kenya’s David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where he gained valuable exposure and first hand knowledge of elephant conservation and rehabilitation. Upon returning to South Africa and after focusing on a marketing degree Tristan decided the bush calling was too strong to ignore and city life wasn’t for him.

This is how he came to train and develop his guiding skills at the world renowned game reserve Singita; hereTristan learned how to combine his love for nature and his incredible photographic skills into a means of communicating  to people, just how special the African bush really is.

From Singita, Tristan went onto Chitwa Chitwa in the northern Sabi Sand where he developed his passion for the lineages and stories of the big cats in the area. From Chitwa Chitwa Tristan then moved onto the southern parts of the Sabi Sand  to Lion Sands Game Reserve where he and Ale met. Tristan gained over 10 years of experience as a guide and as a manager in both the Sabi Sand Game Reserve and Kruger National Park, enriching his experience and knowledge with his constant travel to explore the wilderness of Southern Africa.

In 2017 Tristan joined WildEarth.tv’s #safariLIVE show and featured on numerous National Geographic shows both from the Sabi Sand and the Masai Mara focusing mostly on his favorite animal: the African leopard.

Tristan’s attention to detail and photographic passion has led him to be a recognized wildlife photographer not only in South Africa but also on an international level. In 2015 he was a finalist for the prestigious Wildlife Photographer of the Year with a photograph of Africa’s most endangered mammal: the Ground Pangolin.

Tristan bring to our team a wealth of knowledge and passion for the big cats of the world. His photographic skills are outstanding and he aims at helping people connect with the natural world while improving their photographic level.
