Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and meet your Asilia guide. An hour’s drive will take you to Katambuga House in Arusha, where you’ll stay overnight. Katambuga House is located at the edge of the Mringa Coffee Estate, with lush lawns and stunning views of Mount Meru. Just 10 minutes from the city centre, this is the perfect base from which to head out to explore the town, if you have enough time. If you’d rather take it easy, you can enjoy a delicious dinner on the poolside deck overlooking the lawns, under a canopy of stars, before the next day’s travel to Karatu.
After a quick breakfast at Katambuga House, you’ll head out with your Asilia driver and make the four-hour trip to Gibb’s Farm. Located halfway between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater, the lodge offers breathtaking scenery and impressive wildlife sightings, as well as unique cultural activities in and around the coffee farming area of Karatu. This afternoon relax at the lodge or enjoy a spa treatment or guided tour of the farm.
Enjoy an early breakfast before departing for the Ngorongoro Crater with packed lunches with your driver-guide, around one hour away. After entering the national park, you can stop at the viewpoint to take in the panorama of the dormant caldera of Ngorongoro, before driving around to the descent road to reach the crater floor. Here your game drive begins, searching for any of the abundant wildlife living in this unique place – Ngorongoro has good populations of lion, elephant, buffalo, wildebeest, numerous species of antelope and if you are lucky you may see a leopard or one of the resident black rhino. In the early afternoon, drive back to the crater rim and return to Gibbs Farm after a day full of incredible wildlife sightings.
Wake up early and make your way to the Serengeti, where you will spend three days at Olakira Migration Camp. From here, you can explore the spectacular safari region that is the Serengeti National Park. When Olakira is in the south of the Serengeti (mid-December to April), you will drive from Gibb’s Farm, but when it is located in the north, you’ll hop on a short flight from Lake Manyara Airstrip. Either way, you’ll be in prime position to witness the excitement and thrill of the Great Migration as you head out on unforgettable game drives during the day.
On your final morning, your driver will drop you off at the nearest airstrip. From here, you will catch a flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward journey.
