The Luangwa and Zambezi River course through two of Zambia’s premier National Parks. An unspoiled wilderness South Luangwa is known as the Valley of the Leopard where Norman Carr pioneered walking safaris. With endemic giraffe and wildebeest and endangered wild dogs, game viewing is second to none. The landscape of the Lower Zambezi National Park is entirely different. Its lush channels and ancient forests are a haven for elephants, predators and birdlife. It offers the greatest variety of activities in Zambia from game drives to canoeing, boat cruises, walking safaris and tiger fishing.
Liuwa Plains on the other hand is unspoilt and exclusive with rare game and a rich natural heritage. It is home to Africa’s second largest wildebeest migration, the Lady Liuwa Lion Pride, cheetahs and clans of up to 50 hyenas. From January to May the annual floods turn plains into a haven for migratory bird species. Large flocks will fill the sky, including crowned cranes and Africa’s largest population of wattled cranes.
